Accessibility statement

Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) is committed to providing a website that achieves good standards of accessibility so that its content is accessible to a wide audience.

We are committed to helping improve accessibility by doing everything feasible to make our services easier to use. If you experience any problems with this website, or have any feedback please email investor.relations@dmgt.co.uk.

This section outlines the accessibility features available on the website as well as guidance on how they can be used.

W3C Standards compliance

This website was built to achieve priority levels 1 & 2 (WCAG 1 – Double A) of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines, part of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

This was achieved using code compliant with W3C standards for XHTML and CSS, which allows the website to display correctly in current web browsers. The use of standards compliant XHTML/CSS code also enables the site to display correctly on newer versions of web browsers.

Adjustable text size

The text across the website has been set to relative sizes that can be resized increased or decreased for more comfortable screen reading. This can be done easily using your web browser.

Screen readers

All text used throughout this website is selectable, non-graphical and screen reader-friendly. Screen reader users can also access the website's keyboard navigation instructions.

Screen resolution

This website has been optimised and is best viewed at a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768, with a maximised web browser window.

CSS

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) have been used to control the presentation of pages and properly structured mark-up has been used for content. For a full explanation of the accessibility benefits of this see: “Why using CSS improves accessibility”.

If stylesheets are not supported or are turned off, all information on the website can still be accessed and read.

Navigation

The website navigation is provided in text for improved readability, which is also accessible using a screen reader.

The navigation has been designed to be as user-friendly as possible, allowing all website content to be viewed within the minimum number of mouse clicks. It is also possible to access the content pages of the website by using the 'Search' function.

Images

All informational images will contain relevant alternative text. Where images contain important information, such as graphs and charts, alternative information is provided in the form of inline descriptions or tabular data.

Adobe Flash Player accessibility

Elements of this website have been built using Adobe Flash technology.

User interface components on this website - such as the interactive chart generator and homepage videos - have been developed using Adobe's accessibility-enhancing features, built into its Flash Player.

Further information about Adobe Flash Player accessibility features is available on the Adobe website: access.adobe.com.

Flash player requirements

Adobe Flash Player 9 or a later version of the software - which is compatible with Windows, Mac OS, Linux and Solaris operating systems - is required to view this website.

An accessible PDF transcript of the website’s video content is available to download if Flash is not supported and where screen reader software is being used.

Further information about the system requirements is available on the Adobe website: get.adobe.com/flashplayer/.

Web browser compatibility

This website is compatible with all available current web browsers, including Internet Explorer 6, Firefox 1.0, Opera 8.0, Safari 2.0 and later editions, where Javascript and Flash Player 9 are supported.

User interface

The website's user interface can be controlled using a keyboard, with the ‘TAB’ key used to cycle through the controllable elements on a page.

To scroll through page content, select the scroll pane using the ‘TAB’ key and then use the up and down arrow keys.

To select items from a drop-down menu, select the menu using the ‘TAB’ key and then use the up and down arrow keys to select the next or previous item.

The website's interactive chart generator and videos, developed using Adobe Flash Player's accessibility-enhancing features, communicate menu item changes to screen reader technology.
